Puppy Information

Owning a Cavalier is very rewarding, but also requires a lot of responsibility as your puppy will rely on you for everything—food, water, exercise, training, good health and, of course, lots of love and attention. The links above will give you some help in adjusting your puppy to your family life and what to do to ensure his continued health.

Howevee, once you have made the decision to purchase a Cavalier King Charles Puppy, the next question is what colour and what sex do you prefer.

Male or female?

This is a hard decision to make as as both are equally friendly and loving so there is no difference in personality. The main difference is the 'look' as an adult. The males are broader and more stunning to look at while the females are more porcelain looking.  The male is also cheaper to desex. If you desex the male prior to puberty i.e. no later than 4 months, he will not hit puberty or have testosterone flood his system and therefore not feel the need to mark his territory.  He will continue to squat like a female which is much more pleasant for homeowners!

MaleFemaleUunlike other larger breeds where males have a reputation for being more dominate and ferocious, there is is not an aggressive bone in a Cavalier. Both males and females get on well with each other and enjoy sitting on someone's lap or getting a belly rub.

Both male and female cavaliers are generally intelligent and willing to try whatever it is you'd like them to do. Food rewards and positive reinforcement work equally well with either sex and helps to ensure that training goes smoothly. So it really comes down to whether you prefer the 'look' of a male or the 'look' of a female.

Take a tour of our picture gallery and view some pictures of dogs and then look at some pictures of bitches to help you understand what we mean by the 'look'. There are also some pictures of puppies in the four colours but the 'look' is not so obvious as a puppy. Please note that these are not pictures of puppies for sale but displayed to show you what each colour looks like as a puppy.
