Vaccinations

Some canine diseases are very serious and can be fatal even with treatment. Vaccinations are highly effective in preventing these diseases and have a very low rate of side effects. We recommend regular vaccination to safe guard your new pet.

Until your puppy has had at least the second vaccination, we recommend staying away from dogs with an unknown vaccination status. If you have another dog, you should ensure that their vaccinations are current.

When should I vaccinate? Blenheim Puppy

If you purchase your puppy from Amerlie Cavaliers, he will have had his first vaccination at 6 weeks of age puppies and this is included in your price. This is considered a temporary vaccination and needs to be followed up with another one at 12 weeks. After the 12 week vaccination you can take your puppy out in public areas.

An annual booster 12 months later and annually thereafter is the policy here at Amerlie Cavaliers. However, there is a lot of discussion about the need for annual boosters and new owners can search the web for information on this topic and decide for themselves.

What do I need to vaccinate against?

  • Parvovirus – a highly contagious viral gastroenteritis. Depression, loss of appetite, severe vomiting and diarrhoea containing blood are some of the symptoms. Death can occur very quickly.
  • Distemper – a highly contagious disease producing symptoms such as conjunctivitis, nasal discharge, convulsive seizures and spinal cord damage. Treatment is often ineffective.
  • Hepatitis – in puppies can cause sudden death, whilst adult dogs can experience, weakness, fever, diarrhoea, loss of appetite and bleeding.
  • Canine Cough – a complex disease caused by bacterium and a virus. Affected dogs will have a hacking cough persisting for weeks. In puppies and old dogs the disease can be devastating.
